Ondokuz Mayıs University is the most important and widespread university in the Western East and Central Black Sea region and has two more universities. The first step for the establishment of the Faculty of Fine Arts, one of the 20 faculty members of Ondokuz Mayıs University, was taken in 1999. Despite the application made in 1999 and renewed in 2000, the opening of OMU Faculty of Fine Arts was only possible in 2012. After a city with a significant potential in the sense of fine arts and a highly delayed institution for the university, the Faculty of Fine Arts gave its first graduates in 2017.
Faculty of Fine Arts has five departments as painting Department, Visual Communication Design Department, ceramic-glass Department, Industrial Design Department and sculpture Department. In the Faculty of Fine Arts, there are six main branches of art such as painting Department, graphic Department, animation Department, ceramic-glass Department, industrial product design department and Sculpture Department. Faculty of Fine Arts, as of June 2017, has 13 faculty members, 9 research assistants and 25 faculty members together with an prelector who stationed elsewhere.
Omü Fine Arts faculty is located 11 km from Kurupelit campus, which is the main campus of our university, in the middle of two main residential blocks of the city within the borders of Ilkadim district. It is very convenient for transportation by road and tram and makes direct and indirect contact with the cultural artistic and social interaction environments of our city possible. The Faculty of Fine Arts is also located in the first and only Fine Arts campus of Turkey, and the Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Architecture, Department of art education of Faculty of Education, OMU State Conservatory, Samsun Vocational School and Institute of Fine Arts are the neighbors.
Since the foundation of the Faculty, it has successfully realized performances, activities, projects, structures, academic and administrative quality, national and international achievements, collaborations with other faculties, physical contributions to the city and the development and quality of our university. The aim of the Faculty of Fine Arts is to provide a basis for future horizontal and vertical development. The first of these is to realize the attempts to implement a new faculty building project on the Fine Arts campus and approximately 10,000 square meters. Apart from this, the opening of new departments and main branches within the scope of contemporary and future academic structuring is aimed to increase the academic cadres quantitatively and qualitatively. National and international event our priority is to keep the intention of improving the quality of the project implementation and publications and the cultural and artistic quality of our university fresh and to be the most important reference of our city and our country.
